Thursday 30 December 2010

Winds: SE 10-12. Forecast 17. 16m. Rogue Wave Board. Water: serious murk due to chop. Waves: fast, breaking quick. Some overhead. Was meant to be a downwinder with Philip and Tim, but the waves were a bit much and the wind didn't show up as forecasted. Did a few runs, could get upwind. Called it early.

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Sunday,12 December 2010

Winds: NW 20-30. 12m Helix. Spleene Board. Big Sabine Session--attempted downwinder. Water: very disturbed. Sound very choppy. Jesse took my 11m, and had problems with it. We aborted a mile into downwinder. Good safety call. Conditions were just a little to gusty for us tonight.

Monday, December 6, 2010

Monday, 6 December 2010

Winds: NW-13-16. 16m. Spleene Board. Soundside session. Water: near sunset but seems clear. Bloody cold. Feet almost had frostbite. Winds was gusty too. Not a long session, but enough to get some exercise.

Sunday, December 5, 2010

Saturday, 4 December 2010

Winds: SW 13-17. 16m. Rogue Wave Board. Epic Downwinder: first flag Pcola Beach to Navarre Beach condos. 12 miles. Water: crystal clear and gorgeous. Chilly but air temp comfortable. All species of rays seen and a turtle. Waves: mostly butter, a few thigh highs to make it interesting without being exhausting. Longest downwinder ever! Landed at nightfall.

Thursday, December 2, 2010

Wednesday, 1 December 2010

Winds: NNW 8-11. 16m Spleene Board. Soundside Session. Water: murk our deep. Still cold. Lots of holes in the wind. Some gusts made it kiteable, but overall a frustrating session on a pretty day.

Saturday, November 27, 2010

Saturday, 27 November 2010

Winds: N 11, Gust 16. 16m. Spleene Board. Soundside session. Water: murk out deep. Cold front. Used wetsuit for first time this season. Winds were quite odd. On land the wind did a 360 on me. Holy crap, a month without kiteboarding! This is supposed to be the best time of the year too! There were days with wind, but the surf was dangerous, or there were storms nearby.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Sunday, 24 October 2010

Winds: SE: 11-14. 16m. Both boards. Big Sabine Gulfside session. Water: slight murk, some light seaweed came back. Waves: moderate chop. Head highs at second sand bar. Very gray day. Only had one really good run past the breakers. Navarre Beach is still purple flagged. I think it's the moon jellies.

Saturday, 23 October 2010

Winds: SE: 13-16. 16m. Both boards. Big Sabine Gulfside session. Water: clear. Waves: some mixed waves, none over waist, very manageable. Had a great time in a new spot! Very tiring since you can't really rest on the beach with the kite traffic.

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Thursday, 21 October 2010

Winds: WSW 10-13. Enough to go downwind until a good gust near sunset. 16m. Spleene Board. Water: clear. Waves: butter, still deep cuts on second sand bar. First dip in the water is shocking, but temperature is fine after you get used to it. Can't seem to do a 360. Too hard to spin. Awesome jumps today though..

Friday, October 15, 2010

Friday, 15 October 2010

Winds: WSW 13-15. 16m. Spleene Board. Water: FINALLY NO SEAWEED! It's so nice to look down during a jump and see through the liquid as opposed to the failed Indian Spinach entree that has been the gulf. Waves: butter day with slight chop on second sand bar. Slight nip in the air when damp. Water is still warm, however.

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Sunday, 3 October 2010

Winds: NNW 13-17. 16m. Spleene Board. Water: clear and brisk. Soundside session. Went from Opal Beach Park to the end of the National Seashore, back, and again. Very awesome indeed!

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Thursday, 16 September 2010

Winds: S 11. 16m. Spleene Board. Water: still thick salad. Waves: some shoulder high. Fast current straight onshore. Although I had enough grunt to move, the current kept pushing me ashore. Very frustrating.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Wednesday, 15 September 2010

Winds: SSE 13-15. 16m. Spleene Board. Water: thick salad near shore. Very gross. Evening, so water was dark. Waves: waist high. SE swell Nice long period. Dude, a month without kiteboarding??! Crap. Need to get a job closer to my surf spot. First session with Jesse back in town. It was an awesome ride. Glad I made it out in time. Wind was on until sunset.

Friday, August 13, 2010

Friday, 13 August 2010

Winds: WSW 15-18. 16m. Both boards. Water: solid murk, salad is tossed. Waves: holy crap, the gulf is off its meds. Waist to shoulder high on first sandbar, but crazy currents on the second. Could hardly keep my edge since the water was churning so much. Severe riptides. Didn't feel safe so I went to the soundside. Good decision. Not easy to land there while avoiding the sea oats.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Tuesday, 10 August 2010

Winds: SE 11-14. 16m. Spleene Board. Water: June grass is still clumped and rotting. Water was dark, but it was early evening. Waves: knee high. long period. I need to find a way to store my kite in a hot car. I'm missing out on stoke because of my job.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Tuesday, 27 July 2010

Winds: WSW 11-15. 16m. Spleene Board. Water: June grass is starting to clump. Larger branches are washing ashore. Waves: Butter day. Saw a five foot long turtle out there. Awesome. Too bad I worked today: wind lasted longer than I did.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Tuesday, 13 July 2010

Winds: SW 13-16 16m. Spleene board. Water: I don't think you can pile more june grass in the gulf. I wiped out and didn't splash. I blorped. Waves: couple knee high, two foot seas. Got out too late, wind started to die near 6. I wonder if there is oil in the june grass? Can't see or smell anything.

Monday, 12 July 2010

Winds: WSW 16-20. 16m. Rogue Wave board. Water: murky with full salad. Waves: few waist high, but a lot of chop past breakers. Downwind with Philip. Could have cleared the pier but he needed to leave since I was late in coming. Hung out at landing spot and surfed some more. Curious beachgoers gave me stoke. 9.7 miles. total. 21 mph max.

Sunday, July 11, 2010

Sunday, 11 July 2010

Winds: SW 16. 16m. Spleene board. Water: murky with medium salad. Waves: a few ankle high but very buttery. Lost my cool. I saw a couple picking up a turtle out of the water. When I saw it flail I couldn't contain myself. I yelled at them until they left the beach. Curiosity just killed a clutch of sea turtles. When you surf a spot for so long you feel responsible for it, a sense of stewardship--especially considering the current crisis. No oil spotted nor smelled today.

Monday, July 5, 2010

Sunday, 4 July 2010

Winds: SE 15-17. 16m. Rogue Wave board. Water: slight murk. You can tell the current is chopping up the sandbar again. Salad remains. Waves: chest high. HUGE swells past second sandbar. An extremely tiring session. June made me rusty :*

Saturday, 3 July 2010

Winds: SE 14-16. 16m. Rogue Wave board. Water: clear with a few strands of salad. No smell or sight of oil. Waves: hip to chest high waves. Although I attempted sessions in June, they were barely enough to mention. The wind and the water were just not lining up. A hundred foot run a few feet from shore is hardly worth a log entry.

Saturday, May 22, 2010

Saturday, 23 May 2010

Winds: SSW 8-10. Indication at 4 pm it was S 14. 16m. Water: salad is here, but water is has no chill. Waves: knee. Really could have used a nice session to recharge my batteries.

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Tuesday, 11 May 2010

Winds SE: 8-11. Forecast SE 16 all day. 16m. Water: slight murk. Waves: waist to chest. short period. strong current. Planned on doing a downwinder with Phillip. Just not enough omph to go. Very frustrating.

Monday, May 10, 2010

Monday, 10 May 2010

Winds: SE 8-11 16m. Water: Clear. Saw bottom in 10+ feet. Waves: few calf high. Wind progressively died. Couldn't get moving well enough with the current going the wrong way. Better luck tomorrow.

Monday, May 3, 2010

Saturday, 1 May 2010

Winds: SE 16. 16m. Water: Serious murk. Waves: Overhead, short period, very mushy. Would have been a decent session if the surf wasn't such a pain, there wasn't a big fog everywhere, and generally miserable outside. Jesse was having a ball though. Odd.

Monday, April 26, 2010

Monday, 26 April 2010

Winds: WNW 15-20. 16m. Big Sabine Session. Water: smooth. Some very weird wind shadows in beginning. Winds shifted SW momentarily. Very high jumps.

Sunday, 25 April 2010

Winds: SW 16. Water: murk from the surf. Blue further out. Stinger suit only. Few man 'o wars washed ashore. Waves: chest to overhead. 8 foot swells past breakers. Very challenging but rewarding session. Rode some very scary but awesome waves!

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Wednesday, 21 April 2010

Winds: WSW 16. 16m. Water: crystal! Neoprene shirt. Waves: mostly butter, some three foot chop out. First Downwinder! Philip escorted me down the beach. We even went around the fishing pier! Lesson learned: don't do it with a Door style board. Killer on the feet.

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Thursday, 15 April 2010

Winds: SSE 12. 16m. Water: slight murk due to chop, looked clean though. Shorty. Waves: some waist high. Not too gnarly. Should have been there sooner. Winds have come up before noon. I caught the last half hour before it became S 10ish. Beautiful weather though.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Tuesday, 13 April 2010

Winds: SSE 8-11. 16m. Water: crystal with trace sea nettle. Shorty was comfortable. Little warm on the beach. Waves: ankle high. Had one decent puff of wind and went side shore for half a mile. I don't know why, but when the water is clear it just feels so much better.

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Tuesday, 30 March 2010

Winds: SW 13-16. 16m Water: still a little cloudy, but improving. comfortable in my 4/3 but could have gone shorty. Waves: butter with a few ankle biters. Some of the best conditions for our rigs yet. I keep pushing the envelope on how high I can jump!

Monday, March 29, 2010

Monday, 29 March 2010

Winds: NE-NW 13-16. Gusts 25. 16m. Soundside session. Water: clearing, starting to get warmer. Felt comfortable in my 4/3 wetsuit. Awesome air today. Not so great on the landings, however. A pod of dolphins came by the spot after we packed up.

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Saturday, 20 March 2010

Winds: SSE 14-18. 16m. Water: a little cloudy from the undertow. Waves: chest high and gnarly. Difficult swells outside breakers. Door board was unusable. Very tiring session, but well worth it. Spent some time body dragging friends on boogey board connected to my harness!

Friday, 19 March 2010

Winds: SW 12. Forecast N 5. 16m. Water: clear. Waves: flat, but fast SW. Didn't really expect to squeeze in a session. A very nice treat.

Monday, March 15, 2010

Monday, 15 March 2010

Winds: NNW 13-15. some severe lulls. 16m. Soundside session. Water: clearing up, algae growing on bottom--squishy. Air temp is comfortable, but water has a bit of chill to it--full wetsuit needed.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Sunday, 14 March 2010

Winds: SW 18-30. 12m. Water: still murky. Waves: very soupy, chest high. Pretty decent session considering we still aren't used to these strong winds. Caught a lot of waves.

Saturday, 13 March 2010

Winds: SW 20-35. 11m, 12m. Big Sabine Session. Water: still cold. Still have problems with 11m. Very gusty. Had a doable session. Pcola locals were amazing.

Friday, March 12, 2010

Friday, 12 March 2010

Winds: WSW 15-25. Forecast W 13. 16m. Water: still some murk, but the sun was out. Waves: most chest high, some overhead. Rare problem in Navarre: too much wind. Didn't have the right gear: big kite and door style board. Had quite a few great runs and drop-ins before I felt it was unsafe. Winds got stronger and gustier as afternoon went on.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

Winds: SE 10-18. 16m. Water: damn near chocolate milk. disgusting. Waves: Chest high. Got worse as storm rolled in. First session with Jesse back in town! Lines of thunderstorms moved through. We worked with what we had.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Thursday, 4 March 2010

Winds: NNW 14-16. Big Sabine session. 16m. Water: still needed a wetsuit. Flat. Clean. Not a bad spot to kiteboard. Only one Pensacola guy there. Figured there would be more considering the near perfect conditions. A lot of very high jumps. Stuck almost all landings!

Sunday, February 28, 2010

Sunday, 28 February 2010

Winds: SW 15-17. Forecast calm. 16m. Waves: a few calf-high, otherwise flat. Water: Murky. Where the hell did that wind come from? It was not forecast to be that awesome. Short session since I decided to run errands and a scheduled no wind day. Awesome session though.

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Sunday, 21 February 2010

Winds: ESE 13-15. Rain showers in the area-cleared up by the time I was tired. figures. 16m. Waves: calf-high, occasional chest high. Every once in a while the swell would pick up. Shouldn't have brought my door board. Water: murky. A tree is floating in the surf. Was bothersome spending too much time trying to spot it.

Monday, February 15, 2010

Sunday, 14 February 2010

Winds: WSW 9-14. Came on stronger at end of session. 16m. Waves: a couple of calf-high at the sandbar. Otherwise, butter. Water: just a little cloudy. Frustrating when I first got out since the wind wouldn't stabilize, but turned out to be a good session with some really floaty jumps.

Sunday, February 7, 2010

Saturday, 6 February 2010

Winds: NW-W 17-25. Gust 30. Soundside session. 16m. Water: murky again and freaking cold. A lot of chop. Air: 50. Found the upper end of the 16m. Some gusts nearly upended me. With inconsistent wind, didn't want to boost big air--lest the wind cut out on the descent.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Tuesday, 2 February 2010

Winds: NW 8-15. Soundside session. Water: blueing up now. Water Temp: low 60's. Started lulling as afternoon went on. Had some great gusts that rendered great speed and a few very high jumps

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

Winds: WNW 13-15. Become SW before lulling out. 16m. Soundside session. Water: Brown from runoff. Wake made foam. ick. Long rinse in the shower afterward. Water temp: low 60's. First soundside session in a long time.

Monday, January 25, 2010

Monday, 25 January 2010

Winds: WSW 20. Forecast NW 14. 16m-fully depowered. Waves: waist high to overhead. Most didn't curl for long though. Water: Brown from runoff. So great to be back in my home waters again. It was cold and challenging--I'm very rusty. Took many breaks throughout the session. Wind stayed on until end of day.

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Saturday, 23 January 2010

Winds: SE 18, Gusts 35. 11m. Malfunction soon after launch, no other kite to use. Waves: waist high, soupy, fast. Water: cloudy due to runoff. Really sucks my first session back was not unlike the last one.
